Timestamps: 0:00 Eliminate menopausal belly fat with the keto diet 1:10 High insulin comes about in menopause and results in these conditions and symptoms 2:15 Here’s what to do to lower your insulin A woman in menopause asked me whether she could get rid of her menopausal belly fat with the keto diet, and which diet is overall the best for menopause. Here’s my answer: Keto is the best for losing menopausal belly fat and in general for menopause. When you go through menopause you have a sudden loss of ovarian function which comes along with a spike in insulin. No one’s sure why except that now your adrenals have to work harder. You also get a spike in cortisol, which breaks down muscle protein and turns it into glucose. This is what causes the insulin spike. In menopause, you’re likely to develop insulin resistance which in turn causes belly fat. If you have belly fat the odds of your having liver fat are high. Fat spills over from your belly to your organs. Here are other conditions and symptoms of high insulin: ●Bone loss ●Prediabetes ●Moodiness ●Hot flashes ●Memory loss ●Muscle loss ●High blood pressure ●Decreased libido ●Cravings for carbs and starches ●Cardiac problems ●High cholesterol Here’s what to do to lower your insulin: ●Cut carbs to 20-50 grams per day. Have as many vegetables as you want. If your metabolism is slow, go with 20 or fewer. ●Consume a moderate amount of protein. Click the link below to learn how to do keto. ●Do not go low fat. Eating enough fat will help you feel full longer and help you to do intermittent fasting, which will drop insulin faster than anything. ●Do intermittent fasting. Start with 3 meals per day, no snacks. Do this until you don’t feel hungry between meals. Then move to 2 meals per day; then 1 if you have a lot to lose. If you’re not hungry don’t eat. If you’re a diabetic, have a thyroid issue, or have a lot of weight to lose, you may want to take it one step further. You can eat one meal a day (OMAD) every other day. Check out the link below for how to do this. Basically, when you’re in fat-burning mode your hunger decreases, making it easier to go longer periods without eating. Eating once every 48 hours probably sounds drastic and I don’t recommend it for everyone. But if you reach a situation where you aren’t seeing the results you want, consider it. I linked below to some videos explaining the nutrition you need to take when you’re fasting. This is the healthiest way to lose weight, better than those low-calorie diets where you struggle and eventually regain all the lost weight. Better to be in ketosis (fat burning) to lose your menopausal belly fat. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 56, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
