In this video, we’re going to talk about salt deficiency on a keto diet. When you’re running on sugar and carbs for fuel, you don’t need as much salt in your diet because your body is retaining fluid. When you're on keto, you quickly lose most of this water weight along with important electrolytes. When you’re in ketosis, you should be consuming around 1- 1 ½ teaspoons of salt each day. Here are some common sodium deficiency symptoms: • Low blood pressure • Leg cramps (Especially in the lower part of the leg, calf, and foot) • Dizziness when standing up • Weakness • Fatigue All of these low sodium symptoms are a sign of low chlorides as well. Himalayan pink salt and Celtic sea salt are both great options to increase your sodium intake. Himalayan pink salt is from the mountaintops of Pakistan. Its pink color is due to its iron content. Celtic sea salt is an oceanic salt that also contains clay. It’s lower in sodium and higher in magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium than Himalayan pink salt. A high-quality sea salt will eliminate a sodium deficiency while you’re in ketosis. Remember that salty foods like bacon, olives, and cheese will also contribute to your daily sodium intake.
